Description

Natural brown hair colour for grey coverage

Truffle Brown is a 100% Ayurvedic hair colour that creates natural‑looking brown tones on grey hair using a carefully balanced blend of pigment‑rich indigo and high‑lawsone Sojat henna. Unlike synthetic brown hair dyes, it does not bleach or chemically alter your natural hair colour; instead, it deposits plant pigments on the hair shaft while conditioning and strengthening the hair itself.

Because it colours mainly the grey strands, Truffle Brown softens the contrast between greys and your base shade rather than turning all of your hair into a flat cosmetic brown. The result is not a salon‑style chocolate brown, but a deeper henna‑based brown that blends greys gently and becomes richer and more even with regular use, as layers of henna and indigo build up and hair condition improves.

Who is Truffle Brown designed for?

For people who want natural‑looking grey coverage

Truffle Brown is designed for people with early or visible greys who want to cover them without moving to black dyes or synthetic brown colours. Many users in this group are first‑time or cautious colour users who want to look like themselves, just with softer, less noticeable greys and gentler regrowth.

If your goal is believable grey coverage, healthier hair and a more natural grow‑out—rather than a dramatic, fashion‑colour transformation—Truffle Brown is likely to be a better fit than conventional brown dyes, which use oxidative chemistry to enter the hair cortex and can create a more uniform, “done” look.

What makes Truffle Brown different?

Most “natural brown” hair colours rely on tea, coffee or generic herbal blends to give the impression of a brown shade. These can nudge tone slightly, but on grey hair they cannot reliably create a true, lasting brown on their own.

At Krya, the brown comes from the plants that actually supply pigment. Henna naturally colours grey hair in warm orange‑red tones, while indigo provides the cool blue pigment needed to neutralise that warmth and turn it into natural brown when used together. Truffle Brown uses both henna and indigo in carefully balanced proportions, along with supportive herbs like amla and ratanjot, to create this deeper, henna‑based brown.

We do not rely on tea or coffee to “create” brown. Our approach gives you an honest, plant‑based brown that covers greys naturally and can build richer depth over time, while keeping the hair fibre intact instead of bleaching or lightening it.

What colour should I expect?

Truffle Brown colours grey strands while leaving your natural hair colour essentially unchanged. Because of this, the overall result is usually a blend of your base shade and softer brown‑toned greys, rather than a single uniform cosmetic brown from root to tip.

After the first application, greys may appear lighter or warmer than you expected. Both henna and indigo continue to oxidise and settle after rinsing, and many henna–indigo guides note that the final shade is best assessed after 48–72 hours rather than immediately after you wash the paste out.

With regular use, colour depth and grey coverage typically improve as the plant pigments layer and hair condition gets better. Resistant greys may need several applications before they show a deeper, more even brown, which is common with plant‑based systems that coat the hair rather than forcing open the cuticle the way chemical dyes do.

How to Use

How to Use Krya Truffle Brown Hair Colour

First time using natural hair colour? Don’t worry — the process is simple, and results improve with each use. Unlike chemical dyes, natural colour builds up gradually over time, so your hair becomes healthier and your colour becomes richer and more even with regular application.

Step 1: Prepare your hair

Your hair must be clean, oil-free and free of dirt or product buildup for the colour to bind properly. Most henna–indigo guides recommend washing the hair well before application and avoiding conditioner or heavy products that can interfere with colour uptake.

Oil your hair generously and wash it well before applying colour. You can do this either the day before or on the day of colouring. Use a Krya Hair Wash or a very gentle shampoo to remove oil and buildup without drying out the hair. If your hair becomes oily or sweaty again after washing, we recommend re-washing before applying the colour.

Allow your hair to dry completely before application.

Step 2: Prepare the colour paste

Mix the powder with clean water to form a thick, smooth, non-drippy paste — similar to a pancake batter consistency. Many henna–indigo instructions recommend a smooth yogurt-like paste and note that indigo should be used promptly once mixed because it releases and oxidises quickly.

Use immediately after mixing. Indigo begins to release its colour quickly, so the paste should ideally be applied within 20 minutes for best results.

Step 3: Apply evenly

Section your hair and apply the paste from root to tip, ensuring all greys are well covered. Pay particular attention to the front hairline, temples and parting, as these areas are often the most resistant to colour uptake.

Step 4: Leave on for 1–2 hours

Wrap your hair with a shower cap immediately after application. Keeping the paste moist is important because henna–indigo colours work best when covered and hydrated rather than drying out on the hair.

Allow the colour to sit for 1–2 hours. For higher grey coverage, leave it on closer to 2 hours.

Step 5: Rinse without shampoo

Rinse thoroughly with plain, cool water. Do not use shampoo at this stage; many henna–indigo routines recommend waiting at least 24 hours, and often up to 48 hours, before shampooing so the colour can settle more fully.

Step 6: Allow the colour to develop

The colour continues to develop naturally over the next 24–72 hours, and the final result is best judged after this period rather than immediately after rinsing. Avoid shampooing during this time.

Important: Truffle Brown colours grey hair while leaving your natural hair colour unchanged. This means the final result is often a blend of your natural hair colour and brown-toned greys, rather than a uniform cosmetic brown.

For your first application, expect natural-looking brown tones on grey hair rather than a salon-style synthetic brown. Colour depth and grey coverage usually improve with repeated applications, especially on resistant greys.

Step 7: Post-colour care

After 24 hours, use the Krya Hair Colour Hair Mask as your first post-colour treatment. This helps support better colour binding and improves colour longevity.

Step 8: Maintain your colour

To maintain colour and hair health:

  • Oil your hair and scalp generously before every wash using a suitable Krya Hair Oil.

  • Wash only with a Krya Hair Wash or another very gentle cleanser.

  • Repeat application every 3–4 weeks depending on hair growth; similar plant-dye routines often suggest reapplication every 4–6 weeks as greys reappear and colour fades gradually.

  • In the initial few applications, colour may fade slightly faster. Regular use improves colour depth and longevity.

  • For richer brown colour build-up on resistant greys, use Krya Madyantika Brown Hair Tint every second or third colouring session. This helps create a stronger henna base for indigo to bind to, gradually deepening colour over time.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What kind of brown shade does Truffle Brown give?

Truffle Brown creates natural-looking brown tones on grey hair rather than a salon-style cosmetic brown. The result is usually softer, deeper and more believable, especially for people who want lower-contrast grey coverage instead of an obvious colour change.

2. Will Truffle Brown make all of my hair brown?

No. Truffle Brown mainly colours grey strands while leaving your natural hair colour largely unchanged. This means the final result is usually a blend of your natural hair colour and brown-toned greys, rather than a uniform cosmetic brown from root to tip.

3. Will Truffle Brown look like the brown shades shown in chemical hair colour advertisements?

No. Truffle Brown is designed to create natural-looking brown tones on grey hair rather than a uniform cosmetic brown. Because it does not bleach or alter your natural hair colour, the result is usually a blend of your natural hair colour and brown-toned greys. Many users prefer this softer, more believable result over the flatter, more uniform finish often seen with synthetic dyes.

4. Is this like a chemical or salon brown hair dye?

No. Synthetic brown dyes work by chemically altering the hair, often creating a flatter and more uniform brown. Truffle Brown works by depositing plant pigments on the hair shaft, so the effect is gentler, more natural-looking and more dependent on your starting hair colour and grey percentage.

5. Why does Truffle Brown use both henna and indigo?

Henna naturally colours grey hair in warm orange-red tones, while indigo provides the cool pigment needed to tone that warmth down into brown. This is why both are needed to create a true plant-based brown for grey coverage.

6. Why don’t you use tea or coffee to create the brown shade?

Many natural hair colour recipes recommend tea or coffee to darken henna. While these ingredients may slightly influence tone, they cannot reliably create a true brown shade on grey hair by themselves.

At Krya, we prefer to use the plants that actually provide colour — henna and indigo. This is the traditional and more reliable way to create natural brown and darker shades on grey hair.

Tea and coffee can also be quite drying on the hair and scalp when used repeatedly in hair colour applications. Some people may additionally find strong coffee-based applications aggravating, especially if they are prone to scalp sensitivity or headaches.

Instead, we formulate with Ayurvedic herbs that contribute both colour and hair benefits. The herbs in Truffle Brown are chosen not only for shade development, but also to support hair strength, scalp health and overall hair condition with regular use.

7. What should I expect after the first application?

After the first application, greys may appear softer brown, lighter, or slightly warmer than expected. This is normal with plant-based colour, especially on resistant greys.

The colour continues to develop over the next 24–72 hours and often becomes deeper and more even with repeated applications.

8. How long does the colour take to develop?

The colour continues to develop for 24–72 hours after rinsing, so the final result should be judged after that period rather than immediately after application.

9. Will repeated applications make the colour deeper?

Yes. Truffle Brown is designed to build gradually over time. Unlike chemical hair colours, Ayurvedic hair colours work by coating and layering the hair shaft rather than altering the natural pigment inside the hair.

With each application, more plant pigment is deposited onto the surface of the hair, helping improve colour depth, richness and evenness. This is why many users find that grey coverage and brown tones become more pronounced over repeated applications.

10. How well does Truffle Brown cover resistant greys?

Truffle Brown can cover resistant greys, but very white, resistant or heavily grey hair may require several applications before achieving a richer and more even brown tone.

If you have a very high percentage of greys and are seeking darker coverage, our Natural Black or Midnight Black shades may be more suitable.

11. Can Truffle Brown lighten my hair?

No. Truffle Brown does not contain any bleaching agents and does not lighten hair.

Unlike chemical hair colours, there is no bleaching or lifting step involved. The colour works by depositing plant pigments onto the surface of the hair shaft, helping tone greys and deepen colour without altering your natural hair colour.

12. How often should I use Truffle Brown?

Most users find that a full application every 5–6 weeks works well.

Root touch-ups may be needed sooner depending on how quickly your hair grows and how visible your grey regrowth is. During the first few months, some users choose to colour slightly more frequently while building colour depth and coverage.

13. Is Truffle Brown suitable for first-time hair colour users?

Yes. Truffle Brown is especially suitable for first-time hair colour users who want a gentler way to cover greys without committing to conventional black or brown dyes.

Because it creates softer, more natural-looking grey coverage, it is often preferred by people who want to look like themselves rather than dramatically change their hair colour.

14. Is Truffle Brown safe for regular use?

Yes. Truffle Brown is made with whole Ayurvedic herbs and is free from PPD, ammonia, resorcinol and synthetic colourants.

Unlike conventional oxidative dyes, it can be used regularly as part of a long-term grey maintenance routine. As with any hair product, a patch test is still recommended before use.

15. Is Truffle Brown free from PPD, ammonia and resorcinol?

Yes. Truffle Brown is free from PPD, ammonia, resorcinol, peroxide, metallic salts and synthetic colourants.

16. Can I use Truffle Brown during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Yes. Truffle Brown is made using whole Ayurvedic herbs and does not contain PPD, ammonia, resorcinol or synthetic colourants.

Many women continue to use Ayurvedic hair colours during pregnancy and breastfeeding. As with any personal care product, we recommend a patch test before use and consulting your healthcare practitioner if you have specific concerns.

17. Will Truffle Brown improve hair condition?

Unlike chemical hair colours, Truffle Brown colours the hair while also coating and conditioning it. Many users report that their hair feels thicker, stronger, smoother and easier to manage with regular use.

The Ayurvedic herbs in the formulation also help support scalp health and improve the overall feel and appearance of the hair over time.
