Natural Black Hair Colour – 100% Ayurvedic Indigo & Henna, No PPD, No Resorcinol, No Ammonia
Natural Black is a 100% Ayurvedic natural black hair colour that covers greys in a rich brown‑black shade, deepening to a natural black with regular use. It is designed as an Ayurvedic black hair dye for women and men who want chemical‑free grey hair coverage without PPD, ammonia, resorcinol, peroxide or synthetic colourants. Hair feels thicker, stronger and better conditioned over time.
Made with pigment‑rich indigo and high‑lawsone Sojat henna, it is blended with amla, ratanjot, cloves and acacia gum to support colour depth, scalp comfort and conditioning. Krya Natural Black: a deep Ayurvedic black hair colour made entirely from herbs
If you’ve been putting off colouring your greying hair because you’re worried about PPD, ammonia or harsh synthetic dyes, Krya Natural Black offers a truly herbal alternative.
Krya Natural Black Hair Colour is made exclusively from Ayurvedic herbs. No synthetic dyes. No PPD. No ammonia. No peroxide. No metallic salts. Just whole herbs that colour your hair naturally while helping strengthen and condition it.
How is this different from regular “herbal” or henna hair colour?
Most “herbal” hair colours on the market combine synthetic dye bases with a few herbs for marketing. Krya Natural Black contains no synthetic dye base whatsoever.
Every ingredient in the formula is a whole herb that contributes to colour performance and scalp health:
-
Indigo provides the natural black pigment
-
High‑lawsone Sojat henna binds the colour and strengthens the hair shaft
-
Amla enhances colour depth and supports scalp health
-
Ratanjot helps deepen tone while soothing scalp irritation
-
Cloves help improve colour uptake and shine
-
Acacia gum improves colour binding and conditions the hair
Because these herbs work together, your hair doesn’t just look coloured — it feels healthier: softer, stronger and better conditioned.
How to Use Krya Natural Black Hair Colour
First time using natural hair colour? Don’t worry — the process is simple, and results improve with each use. Unlike chemical dyes, natural colour works by building up gradually — your hair gets healthier, and your colour gets richer with every application.
Step 1: Prepare your hair
Oil your hair generously and wash it well before applying colour. You can do this either the day before or on the day of colouring, as per your convenience.
Use a Krya Hair Wash or a very gentle, sulphate-free cleanser to remove oil and buildup without drying out the hair. Allow your hair to dry completely before applying the colour.
Step 2: Prepare the colour paste
Mix the powder with clean water to form a thick, smooth, non-drippy paste.
Use immediately after mixing — indigo-based colours must be applied within 20 minutes for best results.
Step 3: Apply evenly
Section your hair and apply the paste from root to tip, ensuring all greys are well covered.
Apply carefully and evenly for consistent colour.
Step 4: Leave on for 1–2 hours
Allow the colour to sit for 1–2 hours.
For higher grey coverage, leave it on closer to 2 hours.
Wrap your hair with a shower cap after application — this helps improve colour absorption and prevents the paste from drying.
Step 5: Rinse (no shampoo)
Rinse thoroughly with plain water.
Do not use shampoo at this stage.
Step 6: Allow colour to develop
The colour continues to deepen naturally over the next 24 hours.
Avoid shampooing during this time.
For your first application, expect a rich brown-black shade. Colour depth and grey coverage improve with each use — most users achieve their ideal shade after 2–3 applications.
Step 7: Post-colour care
After 24 hours, use the Krya Hair Colour Mask as your first post-colour treatment. This helps bind the colour better to the hair.
Step 8: Maintain your colour
To maintain colour and hair health:
-
Oil your hair and scalp generously before every wash
-
Use a Krya Conditioning Hair Wash from our range
-
Repeat application every 3–4 weeks depending on hair growth
In the initial few applications, colour may fade slightly faster. Regular use improves colour depth and longevity.
For better colour build-up on resistant greys, you can alternate with Krya Madyantika — our pure henna-based tint. Using Madyantika every second or third application helps create a stronger base for indigo to bind to, deepening coverage over time.

FAQs
-
Will Natural Black Hair Colour work on 100% grey hair?
Natural Black works best on mild to moderate greying. It can give coverage on higher percentages of grey, but for very high grey (around 70% and above) or 100% grey hair, and for strongly dye-resistant greys, we recommend Krya Dwii, our 2-step system. Dwii separates the henna and indigo phases, allowing stronger colour binding and more consistent black coverage. To improve results with Natural Black, we also recommend regular oiling, using the correct Krya hair oil for your hair , and washing with a Krya Hair Wash powder as part of your routine.
-
Is this hair colour safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Yes. Natural Black contains no PPD, ammonia, peroxide, resorcinol, metallic salts or synthetic dye base. It is made only from whole Ayurvedic herbs. It is suitable for long-term use, including during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, we recommend a patch test 24 hours before use, as sensitivities can change during pregnancy.
-
How long does the colour typically last before I need to reapply?
In the beginning, colour typically lasts around 2–3 weeks before a root touch-up is needed. With repeated use, colour depth and staying power improve as the pigments bind better to the hair. To reduce fading: Oil your hair well before every wash using a suitable Krya hair oil Use a Krya Hair Wash powder instead of synthetic shampoo For better long-term colour hold, you can also alternate every 2–3 applications with Krya Madyantika (our henna-based colours) to strengthen the dye bond.
-
How is Krya Natural Black different from chemical box dyes or “herbal” dyes?
Most chemical dyes use ingredients like PPD, ammonia, peroxide and resorcinol to force colour into the hair shaft. Many “herbal” dyes still use a synthetic dye base with only a small amount of herbs added. Krya Natural Black contains no synthetic dye base at all. It is made only from 100% natural whole Ayurvedic herbs, sourced and processed in-house using traditional Ayurvedic methods. It colours the hair while also supporting scalp and hair health — instead of damaging them over time.
-
Can I use this if my hair is already chemically dyed and I am transitioning?
Yes, many people begin using Natural Black while transitioning away from chemical dyes. However, if your previous colour contained metallic salts or compound dye additives, indigo may behave unpredictably and can sometimes give a dull or slightly greenish cast. If you have used salon dyes, unknown box colours or products with unclear ingredients, do a strand test first. For a smoother transition, we suggest: Begin with Krya Madyantika (our henna-based colours) Support the hair with the Krya Damage Repair Hair System Move to Natural Black once the hair’s condition improves
-
Why didn’t my hair turn jet black in one use?
Natural Black is a plant-based, semi-permanent colour. It does not behave like a chemical dye that forces colour into the hair shaft. On the first use, especially on greys, you may see a rich brown-black shade. This deepens into a more natural black over 2–3 applications. Colour may also take time to hold well if the hair is weakened due to: excessive washing low or no oiling past chemical colour damage Regular oiling and use of the Krya Classic or Conditioning hair ranges help improve colour binding over time.
-
Will my hair look brown in sunlight?
Yes, slightly — and this is expected. Natural Black gives a deep natural black with warm undertones, which may appear softly brown in bright sunlight. This is a natural result of colouring with indigo and henna, and is part of what makes the colour look more natural and “alive” than a flat, inky chemical black.
-
Will this turn my hair blue or green?
When used correctly, Natural Black will not turn the hair blue. A greenish cast is usually a transition issue, not a normal outcome. It is more likely if: There is residue from previous metallic-salt or compound dyes The hair is heavily damaged or very porous Indigo is applied over an unstable base This is why we recommend a strand test if your hair has been previously coloured. Starting with Krya Madyantika can help create a better base before moving to indigo-rich colours.
-
Can I use this after using henna?
Yes. Natural Black already contains both henna and indigo, so it works well on hair that has been previously treated with pure henna. A good henna base often helps indigo bind better and improves colour depth and staying power. If your hair has been regularly treated with henna, you may notice faster and deeper colour build-up.

10. Why do you recommend regular oiling and a herbal hair wash when using natural hair colour?
Natural hair colours like Krya Natural Black work by binding to the outer layer of the hair shaft (the cuticle) — unlike chemical dyes that force colour deep inside the hair. If the hair is dry, damaged, or repeatedly washed with harsh shampoos, the cuticle becomes rough and uneven. This makes it harder for natural colour to bind properly, leading to weaker colour, faster fading, or uneven results. Regular oiling and gentle cleansing help restore and protect the hair: Oiling improves scalp health and smoothens the hair cuticle Pre-wash oiling reduces dryness and damage during cleansing Herbal hair wash powders clean the scalp without stripping or weakening the hair When the hair is healthy and well-maintained, natural colour binds better, lasts longer, and develops more evenly. This is why, along with switching to a natural hair colour, we recommend building a simple routine of regular oiling and using a gentle herbal hair wash.
