Have you been searching for a safe, holistic and effective Anti dandruff Hair Oil? Are you frustrated with the persistent and chronic nature of your dandruff? Are you wondering why anti dandruff shampoos work only temporarily? Read on to find out more.

Concerns with Synthetic Anti dandruff Products:

Dandruff is not a generic problem. Depending upon the person, their diet and basic constitution, you might suffer from dry dandruff, oily dandruff or fungal dandruff / seborrheic dermatitis. Mayo Clinic says that the most common cause of dandruff today is dry skin caused by aggravated sebaceous glands. This aggravation can occur because of how often you shampoo or what you shampoo your hair with.

However no matter what kind of dandruff a person has, they are most often prescribed with harsh synthetic anti dandruff shampoos, with active fungicides like  ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione or selenium disulfide, miconazole etc. This solution is logical only if you have fungal dandruff.

If you have dry dandruff or oily dandruff, fungicides do not help heal the root cause. Instead they inflame and irritate the sebaceous glands, worsening dry dandruff and oily dandruff. This could explain why many people using an anti-dandruff shampoo feel that they are worse off than before .

Besides worsening many kinds of Dandruff, synthetic Anti Dandruff shampoos also have many skin and scalp side effects like:

  • Skin and scalp irritation
  • Severe itching
  • Burning or irritation
  • Redness or pain on the scalp
  • Oozing or weeping of skin
  • Eye redness and swelling
  • Hair loss.

Apart from skin and scalp side effects, Anti Dandruff Shampoos and their fungicides have many side effects on the environment, soil and water.

  • Fungicides find their way into fresh and salty water bodies through our sewage lines
    • This contaminates soil and water
  • Like many classes of synthetic chemicals, fungicides are easily absorbed into the body of fishes and other aquatic organisms –
    • They store in the fatty organs and  bio accumulate with increasing exposure.
    • Fungicides like Ketoconazole retard the activity of CYP3A,an important enzyme group present in human beings and aquatic organisms like fish.
      • This enzyme group helps catalyse many reactions in drug metabolism and also help synthesize cholesterol, steroids and other lipids.

Compared to synthetic Anti dandruff products, Ayurveda offers many excellent herbs that are safe, gentle, yet effective in treating Dandruff very holistically. Please read our posts on Dandruff and how synthetic shampoos aggravate this condition and our primer to the Krya anti dandruff Hair oil for more information on this.

How we formulate the Krya Anti Dandruff hair oil : completely natural anti dandruff hair oil with potent ayurvedic herbs

The tricky part of creating an ayurvedic anti dandruff hair oil is this: All ayurvedic oil formulations that encourage good hair growth essentially need to be Madhura (sweet), and Sheetya (cooling) in nature. But such formulations are tasty and give more nutrition to fungal micro organisms. So we cannot use a regular ayurvedic hair oil formulation to tackle dandruff.

Instead, an ayurvedic anti dandruff oil formulation needs to be bitter, slightly astringent and cooling in nature – this will cut down the growth medium of the micro organisms and encourage proper scalp growth without the thickening and flaking we see. To encourage proper scalp nutrition, mildly bitter ayurvedic herbs are used, which continue to nourish the scalp WITHOUT encouraging fungal growth.

The Krya Anti Dandruff hair oil is a purely Ayurvedic hair oil formulated using potent Ayurvedic herbs. Like all Krya oils, the Krya Anti Dandruff Hair oil is manufactured using the Ayurvedic Tila paka manufacturing method. Tila Paka veedhi is an important ayurvedic oil manufacturing process. This is THE process we use at Krya to load nutrients into our Skin & Hair oils helping them work REALLY effectively.

The Tila Paka veedhi process is a TRANSFORMATIVE process. It converts a vegetable oil into a potent, bio active rich oil by transferring the actives from herbs into the oils through this process. One of the reason this process is not used widely is because it is slow, and highly labour intensive . For example, it takes between 6 – 10 hours of SLOW boiling in the Tila Paka Veedhi process to get an oil ready for use. And it needs to be gently stirred throughout this time – so it is really tough to create but totally worth the effort.

The Krya Anti dandruff hair oil uses 33 Ayurvedic herbs and 5 cold pressed, organic vegetable oils in the formulation. Many of these herbs are repeated across Swarasa (fresh juice), Kashaya (herb decoction) and Kalpa (herb paste) to increase their potency in the formulation. Each method of extracting them selectively extracts different kinds of actives from the herb / vegetable. The Samhitas guide us with the right extraction method for each herb – so for example, Bhringaraj is always used fresh as a Swarasa / Kalpa, never as a Kashaya as it loses its potency this way.

Who can use the Krya Anti dandruff hair oil?

The Krya Anti Dandruff hair oil is useful for both oily dandruff and Fungal dandruff / Seborrheic dermatitis. While it can be used in cases of Dry dandruff, it is not essential in these cases and any one of Krya’s other hair oils can be used for Dry Dandruff.

For Oily Dandruff where Fungal infestation has not yet occurred, we suggest using the Krya Anti dandruff Hair oil in combination with either Krya Classic Hair Oil or Krya Classic Plus hair oil to balance Pitta in the head. Please read our “How to heal Oily dandruff” and “How to heal Fungal Dandruff” tabs for more information and a complete dandruff healing programme using our products.

The Krya Anti dandruff hair range and the Krya Anti dandruff hair oil can be safely used by pregnant women and nursing mothers.

What Kind of Dandruff do I have?

Dry dandruff – caused by under active / stripped sebaceous glands

Persistent dandruff: dry dandruff flakes are small, white and powdery

  • Shampooing worsens the problem: scalp feels itchy, dry and tight AFTER shampooing
  • Dandruff Flakes are light, airy, and powdery – they do not clump together
  • The more frequently you shampoo, the drier the scalp gets and the worse the dandruff gets
  • The rest of your skin will usually be okay – there will be no underlying skin condition like psoriasis, eczema or dermatitis.

Oily dandruff – caused by greasy scalp / over active sebaceous glands

Oily dandruff: caused due to aggravted sebaceous glands or greasy scalp

    • You have oily skin and scalp OR you have a dominant Pitta / Pitta + Kapha prakriti
    • Shampooing temporarily helps the problem: itching reduces on the day of shampooing, but scalp aggressively secretes oil and flaking is back in a day or two AFTER shampooing
    • Scalp aggressively secretes oil and hair looks limp, greasy and unwashed within one or two days after washing your hair.
    • The dandruff flakes are large, heavier , sticky & clump together.
    • There is moderate to severe scalp itchiness

Fungal dandruff  / Seborrheic Dermatitis– caused by fungal organisms

When Oily dandruff persists for sometime, it can trigger seborrheic dermatitis or fungal dandruff. This can also happen in Pitta / Pitta-Kapha prakritis who have moderate to heavily greasy scalp with sweet, sour sweat secretions which are attractive to fungal organisms.

Fungal dandruff: caused by fungal micro organisms - yellow, creamy, large, oily, clumped dandruff

  • The dandruff flakes are yellow / creamy yellow in colour – they are extremely sticky and form larger patches / clumps on the scalp which are visible.
  • There is severe scalp itching
  • There is mild – moderate hairfall especially in areas where fungal infestation is high
  • There may be associated skin problems when dandruff flakes fall on skin – you could experience cystic acne on the hair line, on the back, chest or neck if dandruff is severe

How to use the Krya Anti Dandruff hair oil

Krya Anti Dandruff Hair Oil

The Krya anti Dandruff Hair Oil is a well formulated ayurvedic hair oil made win the Tila Paka veedhi using potent dandruff healing ayurvedic herbs. For effective results the oil MUST be used as follows:

Using the Hair Oil on non hair wash days as a LEAVE ON Oil

Importance of Leave on oiling in Oily and Fungal Dandruff:

  • Leave On Oiling is helpful in all Hair Oils. However it is CRITICAL in Oily and Fungal Dandruff
  • Leaving on the Oil on the scalp allows the oil time to cut down scalp scaling, reduce the thickness of Dandruff flakes and discourage growth of fungal organisms
  • This is critical as the scalp continuously produces sebum and sweat with sweet sour tastes that are attractive to fungal organisms
  • Hence the oil must be left on for a long time to cut down these secretions and bring down these “tastes” so fungal organisms are discouraged

How to apply Oil as a Leave In:

  • Only the scalp needs to be oiled for Leave in Oiling
  • Start with LESS Oil and slowly build up oil used per occasion
  • Oil hair with 1/4 teaspoon of the Oil mixture recommended – use teh fingertips and gently but thoroughly massage the entire scalp with the oil
  • Oiling should be preferably done in the morning, before bath
  • Wash your hands with Krya herb hand wash after oiling / combing / handling your hair and scalp
  • Do Leave-in Oiling 2 – 3 times a week

Wash Off Oiling: To be done every time you wash the hair

  • Wash-off oiling is done to protect hair and scalp from the drying effects of washing it
  • This is a general precaution suggested in Ayurveda to maintain the cuticular structure and hair strength
  • This is especially critical for hair with dandruff as scalp and hair is alreday in a weak and compromised condition

How to apply Wash-off Oil :

  • 1.5 hours before Hair wash, warm the Oil mixture on gentle heat (preferably in an oil warmer and not on direct heat)
  • Use warmed oil to first oil the scalp and then coat the hair strands
  • Massage the scalp gently, yet thoroughly using finger tips to stimulate the entire scalp
  • After oil massage, comb the hair and de-tangle it after putting a towel around your shoulders
  • This will loosen and release dandruff flakes onto the towel – carefully wrap the towel for further washing and sanitisation
  • After 20 minutes, apply the recommended Hair Mask onto oiled hair and scalp.

How to heal Fungal Dandruff / Seborrheic Dermatitis

  1. Not necessary. But no harm if you would like to heat before use - Please do not heat the oil directly as it has already been boiled and cooked in tila paka method - please use a double boiler / bain marie method for heating.

3 reviews for Krya Anti-Dandruff Hair Oil (100 ml)

  1. Shruti Bhatia

Fantastic product with an ‘Ayurvedic’ Smell

I bought this product for my husband who has had a dandruff problem since decades. The packaging was good, no leakage. The product itself has a typical smell of ayurvedic herbs and oils. But the results are awesome ! After the first application, hair fall is less by 90 % and itchiness is also almost gone. He applies it an hour before washing his hair and even in such less time, the oil works wonders. There is a lingering smell of the oil which goes away about an hour or so of shampooing.
Definitely and very strongly recommended for persons who suffer from Dandruff issues.

  2. Kavita K

I have been suffering from seborrheic dermatitis and irritated scalp since the last 7 years. I am so grateful to Almighty for helping me find this product and truly thankful to the creators of the product!
