Krya Anti-Dandruff Hair Wash (100 gm)

Krya Anti-Dandruff Hair Oil (100 ml)

Krya Classic Hair Oil - normal - oily hair (Pitta prakriti) 100 ml

Quick Overview

Is your hair greying prematurely? Are you experiencing hair thinning especially around your parting or in the frontal portion of your hair? Is your hair fine, thin, greasy, limp and lacking volume most of the time? Do you “need” to wash it every day / frequently for your hair to look its best?

The Role of Hair Oil in hair care as per Ayurveda:

Regular and frequent hair oiling is strongly prescribed in Ayurveda to maintain hair health, to retain hair’s natural colour and prevent greying, and to improve hair’s strength, growth and its length. Hair oiling is especially vital in Pitta prakriti hair.

Pitta prakriti hair is usually described as normal to oily and tends to suffer from symptoms of Pitta dosha aggravation like premature greying, hair thinning, oiliness, scalp greasiness, etc. When Pitta prakriti hair is regularly massaged with the right hair oil, it supports the healthy release of sebum and ensures it is neither too much nor too little. The scalp is kept supple, healthy and well nourished. Excess Pitta is released through the minor openings in the scalp. Hair is firm, well rooted, does not thin easily and greying is delayed.

Hair oiling is not just good for the care and nourishment of the scalp and hair. It also helps balance excess Pitta in the body as a whole, and brings better health to the body. This is an Ayurvedic practice that should be re-adopted by everyone for better health.

How is the Krya Classic hair oil different from other hair oils in the market? Why is it good for my hair?

Almost all hair oils commonly available in the market are made using Light Liquid Paraffin, hexane extracted base oils and synthetic herb extracts (if claimed). They also use synthetic colours and perfumes and often synthetic silicones that coat the hair masking hair damage. Synthetic hair oils are hence, non-sticky and light to use on the hair.

BUT, the constant use of this kind of synthetic hair oil can clog the pores of the scalp, aggravate Pitta dosha in the body, accelerate hair greying and also cause allergic reactions to the dyes and fragrances in the oil. Certainly, constant use of these synthetic hair oils will not nourish the scalp, promote hair growth or improve the health and texture of the hair.

The Krya Classic hair oil, on the other hand, is a true-blue, authentic Ayurvedic hair oil, made using the Classic Ayurvedic oil manufacturing process of “Tila Paka”. Each batch of hair oil takes us 168 hours to make. Read more about our special Oil manufacturing process in our “Description” tab below.

The Krya Classic hair oil is made from an in-house formulation that has been painstakingly reached, tested and formulated. The Krya classic hair oil is made from 18 different fresh and dried herbs, vegetables and fruits. These 18 herbs are blended in 4 different cold pressed, organic oils & butters including Coconut, Kokum butter, Apricot Oil & sesame Oil. We use NO extracts. We use ONLY whole leaves, roots, fruits, and vegetables when making our Ayurvedic hair oils. Read the complete list of Ingredients in our “Description” tab below.

Will use of the Krya Classic hair oil make my oily scalp oilier?

NO! Regular use of the Krya Classic hair oil, weekly application of the Krya Classic hair mask, and washing your hair with the Krya Classic hair wash, will balance out aggravated Pitta dosha in your hair. So your scalp will be more balanced, greying will be reduces, hair fall will be under control and hair will be thicker, stronger and have better strength.

Good Ayurvedic hair oil is GREAT for hair. We have been unfortunately turned away from the benefits of good Ayurvedic hair oil through false marketing and propaganda designed to sell petroleum based synthetic products.

Benefits of hair oiling OR Why Hair oiling is still cool:
We have often been told: "Oiling hair is so passé and oiled hair looks un-cool. Why are you insisting on hair oiling?".  Yes, oiled hair is no longer fashionable. But hair loss, greying, frontal thinning, and female pattern baldness is also severely on the rise. The rise of these never-seen-before hair problems can be traced back to a single habit which India has lost: hair oiling with AUTHENTIC Ayurvedic hair oil.

In Classical Ayurveda, hair oiling is an essential part of the Dinacharya. Hair oiling is recommended to be done not just for its spectacular scalp and hair benefits. Frequent and consistent hair oiling helps correct many modern hair problems like hair thinning, premature greying, scalp dryness, excessive scalp oiliness , weak and brittle hair, split ends, etc. Hair oiling is also recommended to be done to reduce mental stress, improve the functioning of the eyes, and promote good quality sleep.

Why can’t I oil my hair with pure coconut oil / Almond oil / Olive oil? Why should I use the Krya Classic hair oil?

Ayurveda recommends using Ayurvedic oils – oils which have been processed using herb juices, decoctions and fresh herb pastes. This is preferred over using plain base oils, even if the base oil is of good quality. This preference is because of a few reasons.

When a base oil is processed using the Tila Paka method of Ayurveda, it becomes lighter with smaller particle size helping the oil penetrate deeper into the scalp or the skin. Base oils also come with their individual “prakriti. For example, coconut oil is very cooling, mustard oil aggravates pitta, as does Sesame oil. So when used as is, they cannot provide a holistic benefit to each person whose dosha constitution may be different.

Instead, Ayurveda recommends altering the action of the oil by using the herbs, flowers, fruits and roots that are appropriate for the condition being managed. So the Krya Classic hair oil uses Pitta Samana herbs like Phyllanthus emblica(Amla), Chrysopogon zizanioides (Vetiver), Cyperus rotundus (mushta). Apart from Pitta Samana, the herbs we use in the Krya Classic hair oil also deepen hair colour, prevent premature greying, cool the brain, reduce mental stress and clarify eye sight.  Therefore using Ayurvedic hair oil like the Krya Classic hair oil, allows us to really manage the issues related to Pitta aggravation much more effectively compared to use plain base oil alone.

What kind of hair does this product work best with?

Why does the Krya Classic hair oil have a dark colour, look slightly sticky and smell so herbal? Why can’t you add any natural fragrances to change the way it smells?

The colour, texture and fragrance of the Krya Classic hair oil comes from the set of 18 herbs, fruits, vegetables, roots and 4 cold pressed organic oils and butters used in the formulation. We use only whole herbs, fruits, vegetables and roots and the highest edible grade of cold pressed organic oils and butters.

Each of these come with their own colour, texture and fragrance and flavour profile. Please remember that synthetic hair oils form the market use Light Liquid paraffin, synthetic colours, synthetic fragrances and hexane extracted, refined, de-odorised and bleached oils to achieve the way they look.

Do not evaluate the Krya Classic hair oil by the way it looks or smells. Evaluate the Krya Classic hair oil by the nourishment it provides to scalp and hair and the visible improvement in hair quality it brings you.

The Krya Classic hair oil – manufacturing process

The Krya classic hair oil is an oil formulated using classical Ayurvedic references to balance excess Pitta, cool Pitta Prakriti scalp, nourish the scalp, and encourage the growth of firm, deep-rooted dark hair.

The Krya Classic hair oil is manufactured using the classic Ayurvedic Tila Paka process. The Tila Paka process is a classical 3-part Ayurvedic method combining Taila (oil), Kashayam (Aqueous Extract) and Kalpa (paste) .This is a method unique to Indian traditional medicine, where the nutrients inside herbs are extracted in both water and oil - this ensures that every part of the herb is extracted into the oil, giving you an oil which is both powerful and "sookshma" (capable of penetrating even the minute cells). This process alone takes us between 6 - 8 hours of constant manual stirring to ensure the oil maintains a perfect consistency and the herbs do not get burned.

This oil is then cured for seven days with a second set of herbs and other cold pressed delicate base oils to infuse their properties into the oil. The total time to make a batch is 168 hours which includes processing the herbs and juices, boiling the herb-oil mixture and then curing the resultant oil with another set of herbs. At the end of the hot processing and the cold infusion process, the texture of the oil changes and the oil is extremely different from its basic nature - so even though heavy oils like sesame and coconut are used, the end oil is much lighter, less sticky and penetrates hair and scalp much faster than the base oil.

It is no wonder, that true to its name, the Krya Classic hair oil is one of our classically high performing products. Our users love it for its authenticity, and how well it works to strengthen hair, reduce excess pitta, reduce hair thinning, reduce premature greying, improve hair growth and balance scalp greasiness.

Oiling for hair growth (should be done FREQUENTLY and LEFT ON)

One of the most common searches on our website is “oil for quick hair growth”. A good Ayurvedic hair oil is designed to support healthy scalp and good growth of hair, although no Ayurvedic product can work “quickly”.

When you oil your scalp frequently with the correct hair oil for your dosha type, and leave the oil on to work for long periods, the oil works very well at promoting scalp health and hair growth. With the long term use of the correct hair oil, we find that hair is deep rooted, firm and has good elastic strength. When the scalp is well nourished, we find that the hair growing from this scalp is strong, does not dry easily and retains its structural integrity well.

Please note: for hair growth, hair oil must be used OFTEN and LEFT ON. Oiling just once a week, one hour before hair wash is NOT ENOUGH to support good quality hair growth.

How to oil frequently to support hair growth:

  •  Use ¼ - ½ teaspoon of the right oil for frequent oiling. If your scalp is used to more oil, and you can take this oil without developing a cold, you can increase the amount of oil being used.

  •  Oiling can be done either in the morning or in the late evening (between 5 – 7:30 pm). If you are going to be stepping out, it is better to do oiling at a time when you will be at home, to avoid dirt and dust being attracted to your scalp. Before oiling your scalp, detangle your hair very well and comb through it.
  • Take the recommended quantity of oil and warm well on the palms of your hand. Then using your finger tips, dot this oil across the entire scalp covering the centre (crown chakra), along the centre parting from front to the nape, and across the top 1/3rd, middle 1/3rd and bottom 1/3rd of the head region. Once you have dotted the entire scalp, gently begin massaging the entire area. While massaging, try to work your fingers well so that every portion of the scalp is moved gently and circulation in enhanced.
  • While massaging, please ensure the massage is done gently, and your fingernails are well trimmed. Do not scratch the scalp, squeeze too hard or irritate it any way.  Massage your scalp for 5 – 10 minutes. Stop when the scalp feels warm and tingly throughout.
  • After massaging your scalp, comb through your hair and de-tangle it well. If your hair length is good, make a loose plait of your hair, leaving the entire skull and nape of the neck feeling loose, comfortable and relaxed. Do not use clips, or any hair accessory that can pull or tighten the scalp after your massage.

  • Do not strain your neck in any way at night. Do not use pillows that are very high, read in an awkward position and strain your scalp and neck in any way.

  • Do not wash off this oil in the morning. Most of our scalps are dry and under-nourished. Even if you feel your scalp is excessively oily, the right oil , used correctly cna help balance this excessive oil. As you oil frequently, you will find that your scalp absorbs the oil you give it, leaving no excess oil to be washed off in the morning.

Oiling for hair growth – watch outs

  • Oil is cooling, pitta balancing. For those not used to the practice of oiling, it can sometimes trigger mucous accumulation, sneezing, etc.

  • We therefore recommend starting oiling in very small doses. Start with only a few drops of oil, and use warm oil and massage well until the scalp feels warm.

  • If you are a beginner, start by oiling just once or twice a week and leaving it on. You can then increase this as your body gets used to it, as is necessary.

  • For beginners, it is better to oil earlier than later in the evening. The later you oil, the higher is the chance of kapha accumulation.

  • The oiling timing and quantity can be slowly adjusted and increased every 2 weeks as your body gets used to this practice.

Oil application for protection of hair (before washing your hair with a product):

  •  Hair should be washed only once / twice a week with any product (including a natural product like ours). Over washing the hair breaks down the oil release system, and makes it dry, brittle and unhealthy. This is especially compounded when synthetic shampoos are used as the sulphates and surfactants in synthetic shampoos are EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE. Synthetic shampoos age and dry out hair very fast and damage hair's cuticular structure making it looks dry, limp and it loses its natural shine and gloss.

  • Hair should be washed with a natural hairwash as soon as your scalp accumulated dirt. A dirty scalp breeds micro organisms and increases the chances of fungal contamination. However, most urban environments like offices and homes are extremely sanitised - so our hair does not get as dirty as we think it does. Learn to understand your hair and scalp and time your washes at the right frequency.

  • Hair should be copiously oiled before washing it with a hairwash. This ensures that even in the event of over enthusiastic washing, the hair retains some amount of natural oil and does not get completely dry. Copious oiling also helps the abhyanga process and allows the easy movement of the scalp during the massage. This hair oiling is best done along with a full body abhyanga (oil massage) to ensure that the body's complete organ systems get a full tune - up - this ensures your entire body is functioning well and optimally.  As with all routines start slow. Most of us are unused to oiling and may find that enthusiastically oiling ourselves with large amounts of oil gives us a headache. Start with tolerable amounts of oil and keep on increasing the amount of oil as your system gets used to the process. The same is the case with the oil soaking time. Start with a 10 minute soak and increase the soaking time by 10 minutes every 2 - 3 weeks until you can tolerate a 45 - 60 minute soak.

  • When applying copious amounts of oil, apply the oil as warm as you can tolerate it. The oil temperature should be such that you can easily dip your fingers into the oil without burning yourself and hold the oil in the palm of your hand. If you are prone to colds, or the season is rainy or cold, heat the oil directly with either of the following: 1 clove of garlic, 2 pepper corns, 1/2 teaspoon of ajwain. Remove these spices and apply the oil when bearably warm. These spices impart a "hot" quality to the oil reducing the chances of mucous accumulation or head colds.

  • Please follow the hair washing tips and techniques given in our hairwash product pages. As recommended, please follow up with a pinch of rasanadi churanam after hairwash to help your scalp warm. Avoid oiling or washing your hair if you have a cold.

  3. Hair feels soft after hairwash after a long time! review by Smruti D on 5/12/16

Finally,I did use the hair oil not once but twice and it was really good.

I was happy that my hair was soft after the hair wash which usually isn't the case. I suffer from terrible sinus since many ears. Tried a lot of allopathy & Ayurveda for many years and finally found relief with homeopathy ;but it is still not cured. Due to sinus I have lost a lot of hair and I hope your hair oil does that for me( which I feel will just do that).

  4. NICE ONE TO GIVE IT A TRY review by Sailaxmi Jakka on 4/23/16

I have used a home version of this oil in teens. Later I took to some weird homeopathy oil which had liquid paraffin.Though I realized it is bad, I have used this oil for almost 8 or 10 years now.
Few days back I decided to ditch this homeopathy oil and I found the classic hair just like what my mom used to make with coconut oil, sesame oil and brinjraj @ krya site. .even preethi mentioned this oil in answering one of my questions.
I loved using this oil though used lesser keeping the cost in mind . I was able to wash it off easily with just two heaped teaspoons of krya classic hair wash . My scalp feels fresh and I lover the natural feel of my hair. Thank you krya.

Q: Should the oil be used before or after the bath

Posted On: 9/6/18 By: pavin

A: Both. For hair growth: we recommend using the Krya Classic hair oil during the week, frequently, to massage the scalp. Ideally this should be left ON, without washing the hair, to allow the oil to work on the scalp. We also advise hair oiling one hour before hair wash: this is to coat the hair strands and protect the hair from salts, heavy minerals and to also support weak / fragile hair. This is washed off during the hairwash.
Q: How to find the type of hair?

Posted On: 6/12/18 By: Dhilipanraja

A: If your hair is straight or wavy and if your scalp is normal-oily, then the Krya classic system will work well for you. for those with very curly hair or dry hair and dry scalp, the Krya exta-conditioning hair hydrating system will be suitable
