Quick Overview

Are you experiencing sudden, extremely intensive hair fall post a severe illness or medical treatment? In most cases, the reason for Hair problems is a simple imbalance. This does not need an advanced or specialised system and the body responds very quickly to the diet and lifestyle and product changes to give you good results.

However, for sudden hairfall brought on by long term illness, surgery or high medication, the body struggles to heal itself. In this case, the body requires a little bit of assistance.

Why does hairfall occur after a long or severe illness as per Ayurveda?

Indralupta is the condition described in Ayurveda which is closest to alopecia. Here the texts describe that hair fall is both sudden and intense where the hair becomes weak rooted and falls on the slightest pressure. Indralupta is usually seen as a tridosha disorder where 2 things happen:

Aggravated Pitta and Vata enters into the hair follicle. The effect of these 2 doshas is twofold: Pitta heats the hair follicle, dries out moisture and thins it down and greys it. Vata sucks out oil and moisture and dries out the hair. It also weakens the root making it fall very easily. Kapha which produces Sleshma (oily and fatty layer giving strength) oozes below the scalp, blocking the follicles from sprouting new hair. Therefore you have 2 doshas weakening existing hair and making them fall and the third dosha preventing the growth of new hair.

Indralupta therefore sees symptoms attributed to derangement of all 3 doshas: deranged vata will cause dryness, whitish discoloration of scalp, and rough frizzy hair that breaks and falls. Deranged Pitta will cause premature greying and thinning and ring pattern balding. Deranged kapha will cause prevention of hair growth. Depending upon the dosha imbalance in the specific person, we could have Vataja Indralupta where the deranged Vata is very high, Kaphaja Indralupta, where Kapha derangement is highest and Pittaja Indralupta where Pitta derangement is highest.

The Krya Intense hairfall growth promoting hair oil:

We launched the Krya Intense hair oil last year, after we began receiving requests for hair growth products from Chemotherapy patients. Our research into hair loss took us to how Ayurveda defines Indralupta (sudden, intense hair loss) and we co related it with the kind of medication that Chemotherapy & radiation therapy patients received, so we could understand which doshas were imbalanced.

Our list of customers for the Intense hair oil slowly started expanding: we recommended this product to people who had undergone major surgeries, who had prolonged illnesses, and had been on medication for many years. We have also used the Krya Intense hair oil in severe cases of PCOD and fertility treatment related hair loss.

The Krya Intense hairfall growth promoting hair oil is made from an in-house formulation that has been painstakingly researched, tested and formulated. The hair oil is made from 24 different fresh and dried hair growth promoting herbs, vegetables and fruits like Nettle Leaf, Indravalli , Brahmi & Bhringaraj. These 24 herbs are blended in 4 different cold pressed, organic oils & butters including Coconut, Kokum butter, Apricot Oil & sesame Oil. We use NO extracts. We use ONLY whole leaves, roots, fruits, and vegetables when making our Ayurvedic hair oils. Read the complete list of Ingredients in our “Description” tab below.

How is the Krya Intense hair oil different from other hair oils in the market? Why is it good for my hair?

Almost all hair oils commonly available in the market are made using Light Liquid Paraffin, hexane extracted base oils and synthetic herb extracts (if claimed). They also use synthetic colours and perfumes and often synthetic silicones that coat the hair masking hair damage. The constant use synthetic hair oil can clog the pores of the scalp, aggravate Pitta dosha in the body, accelerate hair greying and also cause allergic reactions to the dyes and fragrances in the oil. This will worsen the condition of the scalp & hair post a severe illness and accelerate hairfall.

The Krya Intense hair oil, on the other hand, is a well researched, carefully formulated, authentic Ayurvedic hair oil made especially for intensive hairfall post illness. The herbs used in the formula are specially selected to stimulate hair growth in a sluggish system and helps balance the system.

As with all our hair oils, the Krya Intense hair oil is also made using the Classic Ayurvedic oil manufacturing process of “Tila Paka”. Each batch of hair oil takes us 168 hours to make. Read more about our special Oil manufacturing process in our “Description” tab below.

Can we offer guarantees about hair growth if our products are used?

We empathise with this question. Surviving and recovering after a major illness is tough in itself. When we see severe hairfall over and above that, it does tend to bring down our confidence levels. However, the success or the failure of natural herbs and natural treatments differs from person to person.

Many factors come into play which include your body’s state of health, your state of mind (if you are depressed or stressed, it is much harder for any treatment to have an impact), the access you have to good quality food, the stress levels in your life and your ability to do something about it, and your willingness to make all the changes suggested to improve your health. Over and above all of this, we have to factor in your genes, and your body’s current state of health and its willingness to make the change.

Choosing a good set of chemical free, properly formulated Ayurvedic hair care products is a good start. In addition, it is important to incorporate good quality regimens like an abhyanga into your daily routine to help balance your doshas. Eating sensibly and correctly for your illness is also very critical. Health and beauty start with every morsel of food we eat.

For suggestions on a good diet and regimen post illness, do write to us.

With my intensive hair loss, my hair is already low in volume. Why are you insisting on hair oiling?

Classical Ayurveda tells us that hair oil when used frequently and left on for a good period gives us very high scalp, hair and health benefits. This is especially required for hair which has had very high hair loss and poor regrowth after an illness.

For high, illness related hair fall, it is critical to stimulate the scalp and improve circulation in the scalp to stimulate hair growth. It is also important to use the right, highly penetrating and growth enhancing herbs to further stimulate hair growth. Along with improving hair growth, and hair texture, hair oiling is also recommended to be done to reduce mental stress, improve the functioning of the eyes, and promote good quality sleep.

I have not had an illness or taken any medication, but I have high hairfall. Can I use the Krya Intense hair oil?
Krya’s formulations are very specific and tailor made to certain conditions. The Krya Intense hair oil should not be used if you have not had a long illness or taken any strong medication which has caused hair loss.

If you have hair loss for any other reason, the Krya Intense hair oil may not be the right product for you and may not work for you. One of our other Krya hair oils may work much better for you. The Krya Intense Hair Oil is not intended to treat permanent baldness or genetic male pattern balding.  Read below to find out which Krya hair system will suit best.

What kind of hair does this product work best with?

1. The Krya Intense Hair Oil works in conditions where the severe hair loss is of recent origin & can be traced to causes like excessive medications ( like hormones , IVF treatments) , illnesses , chemical hair treatments. In all these cases , the underlying problem like the illness must be under proper medical treatment, for the Krya Intense Hair Oil to work optimally. We strongly recommend using the Krya Intense hairwash along with this product and the Krya Intense hair mask. You can also choose the complete Krya Intense hair system which comes at a bundled price.  Synthetic, chemical laden shampoos and hair products MUST be avoided when you have high hairfall and poor hair growth.

2. If you have very high mental stress & stress related hairfall, please explore from the Krya Harmony hair range

3. If your hair and scalp tends to be greasy, and you suffer from premature greying, hair thinning & other Pitta prakriti problems, we recommend using the Krya Classic hair oil or the complete Krya Classic hair system instead.

4. If your hair and scalp tends to be extremely dry, has a lot of spilt ends, tangles easily, breaks easily, is very curly and generally feels rough and coarse, we recommend using the Krya conditioning hair oil or the complete Krya extra conditioning hair system instead.

5. If you have stubborn dandruff, we recommend that you treat the dandruff FIRST with the Krya Anti Dandruff hair oil or the complete Krya Anti Dandruff System before coming back to this product range.

6. If your hair has been chemically damaged (frequently coloured with synthetic hair colours, straightened or permed), we recommend you use the Krya Damage repair hair oil or the complete Krya Damage repair Hair system FIRST, before coming back to this product range.

Why does the Krya Intense hair oil have a dark colour, look slightly sticky and smell so herbal? Why can’t you add any natural fragrances to change the way it smells?

The colour, texture and fragrance of the Krya Intense hair oil comes from the set of 24 herbs, fruits, vegetables, roots and 4 cold pressed organic oils and butters used in the formulation. We use only whole herbs, fruits, vegetables and roots and the highest edible grade of cold pressed organic oils and butters.

Each of these come with their own colour, texture and fragrance and flavour profile. Please remember that synthetic hair oils from the market use Light Liquid paraffin, synthetic colours, synthetic fragrances and hexane extracted, refined, de-odorised and bleached oils to achieve the way they look.

We do not add any ingredient that is not necessary for hair growth or improving scalp health in our formula. We also do not use essential oils, as they are very potent and can cause severe allergic reactions in a small set of the population. Read the complete list of Ingredients below.

Do not evaluate the Krya Intense hair oil by the way it looks or smells. Evaluate the Krya Intense hair oil by the nourishment it provides to scalp and hair and the visible improvement in hair quality it brings you.

The Krya Intense hair oil – manufacturing process

The Krya Intense hair oil is an oil formulated using classical Ayurvedic references to improve hair texture, restore scalp heath & stimulate good quality hair growth .

The Krya Intense hair oil is manufactured using the classic Ayurvedic Tila Paka process. The Tila Paka process is a classical 3-part Ayurvedic method combining Taila (oil), Kashayam (Aqueous Extract) and Kalpa (paste) .This is a method unique to Indian traditional medicine, where the nutrients inside herbs are extracted in both water and oil - this ensures that every part of the herb is extracted into the oil, giving you an oil which is both powerful and "sookshma" (capable of penetrating even the minute cells). This process alone takes us between 6 - 8 hours of constant manual stirring to ensure the oil maintains a perfect consistency and the herbs do not get burned.

This oil is then cured for seven days with a second set of herbs and other cold pressed delicate base oils to infuse their properties into the oil. The total time to make a batch is 168 hours which includes processing the herbs and juices, boiling the herb-oil mixture and then curing the resultant oil with another set of herbs. At the end of the hot processing and the cold infusion process, the texture of the oil changes and the oil is extremely different from its basic nature - so even though heavy oils like sesame and coconut are used, the end oil is much lighter, less sticky and penetrates hair and scalp much faster than the base oil.

Oiling to detoxify scalp and promote hair growth after sever illness (should be done FREQUENTLY and LEFT ON)

For hair that is extremely weak with a scalp that is not supporting optimal growth, the scalp must be oiled frequently and the oil must be left into the hair to help support hair growth. With the long term use of the correct hair oil, we find that hair is deep rooted, firm and has good elastic strength. When the scalp is well nourished, we find that the hair growing from this scalp is strong, does not dry easily and retains its structural integrity well.

Please note: for hair growth, hair oil must be used OFTEN and LEFT ON. Oiling just once a week, one hour before hair wash is NOT ENOUGH to support good quality hair growth.

How to oil frequently to support hair growth:

  •  Use ¼ - ½ teaspoon of the Krya Intense hair growth promoting oil for frequent oiling. If your scalp is used to more oil, and you can take this oil without developing a cold, you can increase the amount of oil being used.
  • Oiling can be done either in the morning or in the late evening (between 5 – 7:30 pm). If you are going to be stepping out, it is better to do oiling at a time when you will be at home, to avoid dirt and dust being attracted to your scalp.
  • Before oiling your scalp, detangle your hair very well and comb through it. Hair will be weak, so use a wide toothed good quality comb and comb gently.
  • Take the recommended quantity of oil and warm well on the palms of your hand. Then using your finger tips, dot this oil across the entire scalp covering the centre (crown chakra), along the centre parting from front to the nape, and across the top 1/3rd, middle 1/3rd and bottom 1/3rd of the head region.
  • Once you have dotted the entire scalp, gently begin massaging the entire area. While massaging, try to work your fingers well so that every portion of the scalp is moved gently and circulation in enhanced.
  • While massaging, please ensure the massage is done gently, and your fingernails are well trimmed. Do not scratch the scalp, squeeze too hard or irritate it any way.
  • Massage your scalp for 5 – 10 minutes. Stop when the scalp feels warm and tingly throughout.
  • After massaging your scalp, comb through your hair and de-tangle it well. If your hair length is good, make a loose plait of your hair, leaving the entire skull and nape of the neck feeling loose, comfortable and relaxed. Do not use clips, or any hair accessory that can pull or tighten the scalp after your massage.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Initially after massaging with the hair oil, you may see some hair loss immediately after oil application. This is because the massage is uprooting hair that is week rooted and fragile. Do NOT worry. Continue oiling so that the new hair which grows is firmer and deep rooted and stronger.

Oiling for hair growth – watch outs

  • Oil is cooling, pitta balancing. For those not used to the practice of oiling, it can sometimes trigger mucous accumulation, sneezing, etc.
  • We therefore recommend starting oiling in very small doses. Start with only a few drops of oil, and use warm oil and massage well until the scalp feels warm.
  • If you are a beginner, start by oiling just once or twice a week and leaving it on. You can then increase this as your body gets used to it, as is necessary.
  • For beginners, it is better to oil earlier than later in the evening. The later you oil, the higher is the chance of kapha accumulation.
  • The oiling timing and quantity can be slowly adjusted and increased every 2 weeks as your body gets used to this practice.

Oil application for protection of hair (before washing your hair with a product):

  •  Fragile stressed out hair breaks or gets damaged further if you over wash it. If your hair does not get too dirty, wash only ONCE a week with the Krya Intense hair wash. Weak hair is extremely porous and is susceptible to water damage as it tends to absorb water much faster than healthy hair.

  • Hair should be washed with a natural hairwash as soon as your scalp accumulates dirt. A dirty scalp breeds micro organisms and increases the chances of fungal contamination. However, most urban environments like offices and homes are extremely sanitised - so our hair does not get as dirty as we think it does. Learn to understand your hair and scalp and time your washes at the right frequency.

  • Hair should be copiously oiled before washing it with a hairwash. This ensures that even in the event of over enthusiastic washing, the hair retains some amount of natural oil and does not get completely dry. Copious oiling also helps the abhyanga process and allows the easy movement of the scalp during the massage. This hair oiling is best done along with a full body abhyanga (oil massage) to ensure that the body's complete organ systems get a full tune - up - this ensures your entire body is functioning well and optimally.  As with all routines start slow. Most of us are unused to oiling and may find that enthusiastically oiling ourselves with large amounts of oil gives us a headache. Start with tolerable amounts of oil and keep on increasing the amount of oil as your system gets used to the process. The same is the case with the oil soaking time. Start with a 10 minute soak and increase the soaking time by 10 minutes every 2 - 3 weeks until you can tolerate a 45 - 60 minute soak. Remember, you may see some hairfall immediately after oiling as explained above.

  • When applying copious amounts of oil, apply the oil as warm as you can tolerate it. The oil temperature should be such that you can easily dip your fingers into the oil without burning yourself and hold the oil in the palm of your hand. If you are prone to colds, or the season is rainy or cold, heat the oil directly with either of the following: 1 clove of garlic, 2 pepper corns, 1/2 teaspoon of ajwain. Remove these spices and apply the oil when bearably warm. These spices impart a "hot" quality to the oil reducing the chances of mucous accumulation or head colds.

  • Please follow the hair washing tips and techniques given in our hairwash product pages. As recommended, please follow up with a pinch of rasanadi churanam after hairwash to help your scalp warm. Avoid oiling or washing your hair if you have a cold.

Dos & Don’ts for weak hair:

  • Massage very gently. Do not pull or over-tug hair.
  • Use only a wide toothed comb with rounded edges. Do not use a brush. Comb extremely gently
  • De-tangle hair BEFORE washing the hair
  • Do not use hot water on hair. Use water as cold as you can bear it.
  • Do not pull or tug hair while washing.
  • Do NOT wring hair to squeeze out water after washing. Blot gently with a clean towel.
  • Do NOT comb wet hair
  • Do NOT use a hot hair dryer
  • Do NOT pull back the hair in a tight plait or use tight clips/scrunchies
